Grenoble-based musical duo the shining tapes, Frédéric Bonnier and Vincent Agache, have just released 2 new tracks.

The group was born in the spring of 2021, during a period of confinement. Their first single, Twilight, was a tribute to David Bowie and his masterpiece Lazarus. Still breathing, the duo's second opus, was a look at current events and the death of George Floyd, as a call to fight racism and violence.

Since the beginning of September, music fans can listen to their two new tracks on streaming platforms, one resolutely rock-oriented, Modern Romance, and the other more velvety. Modern Romance is the quintessence of what the Shining Tapes are capable of producing: bewitching drums, a heavy bass-line, a bewitching electro backdrop and Frédéric Bonnier's soaring, modulating vocals.

Filthy Heartbreak opens with a variation on piano and voice, full of sad charm, more pop than electro, a sentimental reverie of heartache and sorrow.

The duo works on Vincent Agache's compositions and Frédéric's voice and arrangements. Their timeless creations reflect a skilful blend of Dave Gahan and Peter Gabriel, bringing us a melodic power that also makes us think of Radiohead.

Le duo de musiciens Grenoblois the shining tapes, Frédéric Bonnier et Vincent Agache, vient de sortir 2 nouveaux titres.

Le groupe est né au printemps 2021, pendant une période de confinement. Leur premier premier single, Twilight, était un hommage à David Bowie et son chef-d'œuvre Lazarus. Still breathing, le deuxième opus du duo, était un regard sur l'actualité et la mort de George Floyd, comme un appel à la lutte contre le racisme et la violence.

Depuis le début du mois de septembre, les mélomanes peuvent écouter sur les plateformes de streaming, leur deux nouveaux titres avec l'un résolument orienté rock, Modern Romance et l'autre, plus velouté. À l'écoute de Modern Romance, on retrouve la quintessence de ce que the Shining Tapes est capable de produire : une batterie envoûtante, une base qui pèse, un fond sonore électro ensorcelant et la voix de Frédéric Bonnier qui, tout en modulation, s'envole.

Filthy Heartbreak s'ouvre sur une variation piano et voix, pleine de charme triste, plus pop qu’electro, une rêverie sentimentale avec ses peines de cœur et son chagrin.

Le duo fonctionne sur les compositions de Vincent Agache et la voix et les arrangements de Frédéric. Des créations intemporelles qui s'articulent comme le reflet d'un savant mélange de Dave Gahan et de Peter Gabriel qui nous apporte une puissance mélodique qui nous fait aussi songer à Radiohead.
